Vaavu map1It is situated 65 km from the Maldivian capital Male (90 minutes on a high-speed yacht, or 5 hours on a common vessel). This atoll represents an interesting geogaphical phenomenon, as it is composed of two atolls: the main one, Vaavu, and a round one, about 9 km in diameter, situated near the main atoll. Five inhabited islands with the population of about 2300 people, make Vaavu Atoll the smallest administrative unit of Maldives. Beside these 5, there are about 14 other islands, but mosts of them are hardly explored by tourists compared to other atolls islands. Vaavu altoll is considered the best diving place on Maldives.

Fotteyo Kandu diving area is believed to be the best in the country and makes part of top five diving places of the world. Vaavu atoll was open for tourists in 1975, and it gained popularity with numerous tour and safari operators on Maldives. Reefs of the western part of the vaavu divingMaldives stay untouched and suit greatly not only diving fans, but also for snorkelers. Many sharks dwell there, and there’s high possibility to meet an sword-fish and other interesting species.

HammerheadDhiggiri island is served by Diggiri Tourist Resort hotel. This island is 50 km away from the airport. Motor boat transfer takes about 90 minutes. Divers will enjoy staying there for it is one of the world best deepening places. The hotel offers 45 bungalows and has some water villas as well.
